Bookings handled for you

We bring the clients, take the payment up front and send reminders. You just show up and walk.

Dogs you get to know

Step 1 — Canine first-aid mini course

Every Paws & Co. walker takes this short safety course before signing up. Read the notes, pass the quick check, and the application form unlocks.

Canine first-aid basics

A short read and a 5-question check. Pass 4 of 5 to unlock the walker application. This is basic safety training, not a veterinary qualification.

1. Before the walk: prevention first

  • Check the collar or harness fits snugly — two fingers under the strap, no more.
  • Keep the lead short near roads, and never wrap it around your hand or wrist.
  • In hot weather, walk early or late and test the pavement with the back of your hand for five seconds. Too hot for you, too hot for paws.
  • Carry water on every visit longer than 30 minutes.

2. Spotting an emergency

  • Heatstroke: heavy panting, bright red gums, drooling, wobbling, collapse.
  • Choking: pawing at the mouth, gagging, panic, blue-tinged gums.
  • Shock after a fall or a fight: pale gums, fast shallow breathing, cold paws and ears.
  • Bleeding, limping that won't settle, seizures, or a bloated hard belly are all urgent.

3. What to do in the first two minutes

  • Keep yourself safe first — a frightened dog may bite. Muzzle gently with a lead only if needed.
  • Heatstroke: move to shade, pour cool (not ice-cold) water over the body, offer small sips, then go straight to a vet.
  • Bleeding: press a clean cloth firmly on the wound and hold it — don't keep lifting to look.
  • Seizure: clear the area, don't restrain the dog, time it, dim the noise, and call the vet.
  • Choking: check the mouth for a visible object you can safely hook out; never push blindly down the throat.

4. Who you call, and in what order

  • Call the nearest open vet and say you're on your way — they prepare for arrival.
  • Message the owner through the app immediately with what happened and what you're doing.
  • Then message the Paws & Co. team so we can support you and keep records.
  • Never treat with human medicine (no paracetamol, no ibuprofen) — both are toxic to dogs.

5. Your walk kit

  • Water and a collapsible bowl, poo bags, spare lead or slip lead.
  • Vet wrap or a clean cloth, saline pouch, tick remover, tweezers, disposable gloves.
  • Phone fully charged, with the owner's vet details saved from the booking.

Step 2 — Apply to join the team

Takes about two minutes. Apply while signed in and your walker account activates straight away. Last step: upload a photo ID from the jobs board — visits can only be accepted once your ID is verified.
